Paul Ajala is a 6th Dan judoka, former British Champion, and internationally experienced coach who has led Harrow Judo since 1999. Recognised for his inclusive, technical approach, Paul teaches children, adult beginners, and advanced students alike. 

 

He is also a senior instructor at the Budokwai and has trained in Japan under legendary figures including Kashiwazaki Sensei. His sessions emphasise discipline, confidence, and long-term development in a supportive environment.

Matthew Glossop - UKCC L3 Senior Coach

Matt Glossop UKCCL3 Senior Coach – Harrow Judo
Dan Grade: 5th Dan
Experience: 35+ years

 

Matt Glossop, 5th Dan, leads the judo programme at Harrow School and brings extensive experience as both a coach and educator.

A former Oxford University Judo President and Judo Blue, Matt now coaches at a high level, combining technical expertise with a thoughtful, values-led approach. He champions judo as a tool for building confidence, resilience, and respect in young people.

 

His leadership extends beyond the dojo — from organising judo visits to Japan to supporting international outreach projects — reflecting his commitment to judo’s global spirit and community impact.

Mark Davies - Assistant UKCC L1 Coach

Mark Davies, 1st Dan, is a UKCC Level 1 judo coach and assistant instructor at Harrow Judo. Also, a practising lawyer, Mark brings a unique blend of analytical clarity and calm, values-based guidance to the dojo.

 

His dual background in law and martial arts reflects a commitment to structure, fairness, and personal growth — qualities that enrich both his coaching and his role within our judo community.

Terry President - Associate Budokwai UKCC Level 2 Coach

Grade: Kodokan 2nd Dan
Experience: 40 years
Joined Harrow Judo: 2017

 

Terry is a UKCC Level 2 coach with over four decades of experience and deep roots in traditional Japanese judo. A long-standing member of the prestigious Budokwai Sunday coaching team, he is known for his technical precision and calm, safety-first approach—qualities shaped by his professional background as a health and safety manager.

 

Highly regarded for his expertise in formal kata, Terry both practises and teaches this traditional discipline with commitment and care. His knowledge is grounded in authentic training at the world-renowned Kodokan in Tokyo, where he earned his 2nd Dan.

 

A long-time coaching colleague and close friend of Head Coach Paul, Terry regularly steps in to lead sessions when needed. He also serves as an important link between Harrow Judo and the Budokwai, offering our advanced students a clear pathway to higher-level training, while reinforcing the shared values and high standards of both clubs.

Sean Campbell - Associate Budokwai Coach

Sean Campbell – UKCC Level 2 Coach, Budokwai & Harrow Judo


Grade: Kodokan 2nd Dan

Sean is a UKCC Level 2 coach with over four decades of experience. Primarily based at the Budokwai, he brings deep insight into judo—shaped by training in Japan and a lifetime on the mat. Standing at 6’5″, Sean offers expert guidance for all judoka, with particular value for taller and heavyweight players, blending agility, strength, and refined technique.

 

A long-serving member of the Budokwai’s renowned Sunday coaching team and a current committee member, he plays a key role in ensuring good governance at one of the UK’s most historic clubs. For Harrow Judo members wishing to visit the Budokwai on a Sunday morning, Sean is a welcoming and familiar presence on the mat.

 

At Harrow Judo, we’re fortunate to benefit not only from Sean’s coaching expertise but also from the informal wisdom he brings to club governance—reflecting his generosity and deep commitment to the wider judo community.

Inna Chad - Club Welfare Officer

Inna is the Welfare Officer at both Hillingdon Judo Club and Harrow Judo. A long-standing and active member of Hillingdon Judo, she has generously offered to support Harrow Judo by sharing her experience and expertise in child welfare — something for which we are truly grateful. Inna is a committed brown belt judoka currently training hard toward her black belt.

 

At Hillingdon, she plays a key role as a coach for the Junior Academy, treasurer, and trusted welfare officer. Harrow Judo has always enjoyed a close relationship with Hillingdon Judo, and we are delighted to have Inna officially join our team.

 

Her dedication to the sport and safeguarding makes her an invaluable part of our shared community.

William Grenfell - UKCC Level 1 Assistant Coach

William Grenfell – UKCC Level 1 Assistant Coach, Harrow Judo

Grade: 1st Kyu
Experience: 8+ years
Joined Harrow Judo: 2017

 

Will is a UKCC Level 1 assistant coach and an integral member of the Harrow Judo team. Having started as a complete beginner when Harrow Judo was founded in 2017, he has progressed impressively through the ranks thanks to his strong work ethic, keen observation, and technical precision.

 

Will brings a thoughtful, inquisitive approach to his training—always asking questions and seeking deeper understanding—which enhances both his own development and the quality of his coaching. Known for his determination and spirit, he performs especially well in randori, competing capably with heavier or more experienced judoka.

 

His calm, personable manner, and openness to learning make him a valued coach for judoka at all levels. Will is currently preparing diligently for his black belt and represents a bright part of Harrow Judo’s coaching future.

Peter Bainbridge – UKCC Level 1 Assistant Coach

Peter is a UKCC Level 1 judo coach and a key assistant instructor for our children’s classes. He has been part of Harrow Judo since its founding in 2017, working closely with Paul to deliver high-quality coaching. With a calm, supportive approach, Peter helps our younger judoka build strong fundamentals that underpin long-term success in the sport.


As a parent of three children who have all trained at Harrow Judo, Peter brings a unique perspective, understanding the values of the club from both a coaching and parental point of view.


His current goals include earning his long-overdue black belt and progressing to the UKCC Level 2 coaching qualification.
