Harrow School Dojo , Chapel Terrace, Harrow on the Hill, London, HA1 3HP.
At Harrow Judo, our focus is simple: to serve the people who step onto our mat. We are a community-rooted club — built with care, guided by tradition, and open to all.
We believe judo is more than a sport. It’s a lifelong practice that nurtures character, resilience, and respect — on and off the mat. Our environment is inclusive, friendly, and supportive, where personal growth and technical excellence go hand in hand.
Led by 6th Dan coach Paul Ajala, our sessions welcome everyone: young beginners, committed teens, adult newcomers, and experienced judoka. Each class blends enjoyment with challenge, guided by a proven syllabus that encourages steady, meaningful progress.
As part of our commitment to both modern coaching and classical roots, we also offer access to formal kata training for members and subscribers — a unique opportunity for those wishing to explore judo’s deeper traditions.

Clear pathway to The Budokwai for extended training and competition

“Apart from being a former British Champion Mr. Ajala enjoys prominence within the British Judo Association as an excellent technician of judo. He has attended the Budokwai as a black belt since the age of sixteen and for a number of years exercised a key role in the success of the adult Budokwai Saturday class. During the mid-eighties he was the first foreign visitor to attend the International Budo University (IBU) in Japan for three months, continuing his study with professor Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki who had just completed a twelve months teaching visit to the Budokwai. Now Paul has developed a successful Sunday class for Juniors (13-18 years) at the Budokwai.”
Tony Sweeney, 9th Dan, Hon. President Budokwai, Former Chairman BJA technical/coaching committee
“My business is all about technical excellence and Paul Ajala exemplifies technical excellence. His vast competitive and technical experience enables him to pass on his vast knowledge and expertise to his students. His attention to detail gives him the edge over many teachers and coaches and this can make the difference when passing skills on to students. His amiable personality and easy going approach to life is an added bonus.”
Neil Adams MBE, 9th dan, World Champion 2x Olympic Silver medallist.
“Mr. Paul Ajala is one of my friends that I most admire. I have been teaching judo at the International Budo University in Japan., which opened in 1983. He was the first foreign judo trainee at IBU and was a very good student at this university. His Judo is very beautiful, and this is important for a judo instructor. I hope that many people learn judo with him. You will know the joy of true judo with his guidance.”
Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki, 8th dan Professor of International Budo University World Judo Champion 1981.
